How to order a used vehicle information package (UVIP) — it contains a description of a vehicle and its history. As the seller, you are legally required under the Road Safety and Registration Act to provide this package to a buyer when you sell a pre-owned vehicle.

What you get
The seller is legally required to provide a used vehicle information package (UVIP) to a buyer when selling a pre-owned vehicle.
This package contains:
- the vehicle details (including the year, make, model, colour, body type, cylinders and power)
- a vehicle registration history (including all present and previous owners, their city of residence and odometer reading)
- vehicle lien information
- Sales Tax information — the average wholesale value of the vehicle
- last known status of the condition of the vehicle
- if it has been reported as wrecked
- bill of sale section

When you need a used vehicle information package
It is an offence for the seller to not provide the buyer with a used vehicle information package if you are selling one of the following used vehicles:
- car
- van
- light truck (empty weight of 2,200 kg or less)
- self-propelled motor home
- motorcycle
- light farm vehicle
Protect yourself from fraud and identity theft
- look out for discrepancies in the used vehicle information package
- physically inspect the VIN to ensure the paperwork matches
- take the vehicle to a trusted mechanic for an independent inspection
